2012 Class Project

The Waves of History Project created a historical walk through Hermosa Beach by placing beautiful hand-painted ceramic tiles at six locations of historical significance throughout the city and a printed map available at the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce. Working with the Hermosa Beach Historical Society, the class also created a walking tour and web page with more information about each site. The Hermosa Beach Historical Society provided historical material including photos and site descriptions. The ceramic tile markers were designed and manufactured by local Diana Mausser at Native Tile and the location map was designed and illustrated by local artist Nick Arciaga. Landmarks include The Bijou Theatre, Pier Avenue School, The First Bank of Hermosa Beach, The Surf and Sand Club – Biltmore Hotel, Hermosa Beach Courthouse/Jail and Clark Stadium.
