Emerging Leader Application

Each year Leadership Hermosa Beach hosts its annual Emerging Leader Awards to celebrate new contributors to our community. These awards recognize those individuals, local businesses, and organizations who have taken up leadership roles to benefit the city and residents of Hermosa Beach. Qualified candidates demonstrate potential for an expanding leadership role but may not yet have a body of work that has warranted other accolades. Nominations for the 2024 awards will be accepted in the following three categories:

  1. Hermosa Beach Local Business or Not-for-Profit/Community Organization
  2. Hermosa Beach Youth (individual aged 5 – 17)
  3. Hermosa Beach Adult (individual aged 18+)

Nominees must be residents of the City of Hermosa Beach, but are not required to be alumni of Leadership Hermosa Beach. Those who have been elected to Hermosa Beach City Council or higher office or those who have received the Hermosa Beach Person of the year award are ineligible. Nominees may not be members of the current Emerging Leader Selection Committee.

All nominees will be considered by the Selection Committee and all nominees and winners will be recognized at the Leadership Hermosa BEACH BALL Saturday, April 20, 2024 and by the Hermosa Beach City Council.

Board of Directors Application

Expectations of Board Members are as follows:

  • Abide by the Leadership Hermosa Beach's Code of Conduct and Corporate Policies & Procedures
  • Attend monthly meetings (1st Monday - August thru July), 2 retreats and provide timely updates to the BoD (during meetings and via Slack)
  • Participate actively on the Board by taking a leadership role or being accountable for 2-3 events throughout the year
  • Engage alumni and active members to serve on committees and volunteer for activities
  • Attend Class Orientation & Graduation
  • Highly encouraged to attend Monthly Classes (usually the 4th Thursday of the month) and support the class as needed
  • Be a positive champion and advocate for Leadership Hermosa Beach both internally and externally

Class Curriculum Committee Application

We are now accepting applicants for the Class Curriculum Council!

The Class Curriculum Council (CCC) exists as a Council under the LHB Board of Directors. It’s purpose is to provide a year-round focus on designing, planning and executing the Class experience. The CCC works closely with the Class Facilitators on the curriculum, content, speakers and activities for orientation, month classes and graduation. It is a way for you to bring new ideas and shared insight for continuous improvement.

Members will be appointed to a one year term from August to June(or until graduation) with an optional one year term renewal.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assisting Facilitators in Class Planning
  • Recruiting and Coordinating Class Mentors
  • Coordinating Intra-Class Socialization Opportunities
  • Coordinating Class / Alumni Engagement Opportunities
  • Coordinating Class / Community Outreach Opportunities
  • Collecting Lessons Learned and Helping to Pre-Plan Next Year's Class

You are eligible to be on the CCC if you:

  • Are an Active Member in good standing with the organization.
  • Agree to follow the organization’s bylaws, code of conduct and policies.
  • Have paid your current year alumni dues

Class Facilitator Application

Would you like to help lead the next LHB Class?

We are now accepting applications for Class Facilitators

Facilitators serve on a 3-person team to lead Orientation and the monthly classes.

The facilitator team shares a number of responsibilities including:

  • Managing and working alongside the Class Curriculum Council (CCC) to make sure Orientation and the monthly class sessions are effectively planned and executed
  • Overseeing and supporting the class in the selection and execution of their community service project
  • Preparing class materials, managing communication tools, and ensuring class member adherence to policies and guidelines
  • Facilitating socialization, alumni engagement and community outreach for the class in coordination with the Class Curriculum Council
  • Working to ensure each Class Member has a rewarding experience throughout the year

Key Dates for the Class of 2024:

  • Friday, July 17th: Facilitator Applications Due
  • Monday, July 20th - Friday July 24th: Facilitator Interviews via Zoom or in person
  • Monday, July 27th: Facilitators selected by the Board of Directors
  • Late July / Early August (date TBD): New Facilitator Orientation
  • Beginning in early August (dates TBD): Orientation, Class Planning and CCC Meetings via Zoom or in person
  • Saturday, September 12th: Class Orientation
  • Third Thursday of each month from September - May, 6-9 PM: Monthly Classes
  • Third Thursday of June, 6-9 PM: Class Graduation

You are eligible to be a Facilitator if you:

  • Agree to follow the organization’s bylaws, code of conduct and policies
  • Commit to attending orientation, the monthly classes and graduation
  • Commit to completing all the responsibilities listed above
  • Have paid your current year alumni dues
