2021 Class Project

Valley for All

With the usage of outdoor spaces being more critical to mental and physical health now more than ever, “Valley for All” was a project committed to making Valley Park — one of the most popular parks in Hermosa Beach — more accessible, more inclusive, and more functional for everyone. Leadership Hermosa Beach Class of 2021 focused on improvements within the high-traffic lower BBQ area specifically, upgrading key amenities (e.g. barbecue grills and sink); cleaning up the tables, garbage receptacles, and hot coal bin; and most importantly, removing the old entrance ramp, leveling the entire area, and replacing it with layers of sand, base rock, and engraved pavers to eliminate tripping and slip hazards to ensure the areas is a safe space for all. In addition to the guidance, support, and encouragement shown by the City of Hermosa Beach — including City Council, Public Works, and Parks & Recreation — Valley for All would not have been possible without the help of the local businesses, organizations, and community members who believed in the project every step of the way. Hermosa Beach Friends of the Park, a non-profit corporation dedicated to identifying, prioritizing, fundraising for parks throughout Hermosa Beach, is not only a proud supporter of Leadership Hermosa Beach, but is also the official legacy partner of Valley for All and will continue to improve Valley Park for many years to come.
